Periodically, Newspapers In Education holds continuing education workshops for educators. These workshops provide teachers with innovative and unique tools for utilizing the newspaper in daily lesson planning.

The Daily Newspaper.
A Valuable Teaching Tool.

Using the Daily Newspaper as an Instructional Tool (PDE #2721):

This course is designed to enable teachers to utilize the newspaper as a resource and an instructional tool in the classroom. Strategies and methodologies provided will lead toward the effective implementation of the newspaper in various grade levels and/or content areas. Curriculum materials and teaching strategies related to the newspaper and its use will be demonstrated. Participants will have the opportunity to design, develop, and experiment with materials and strategies of their own. Course includes a tour of the R-J facility along with discussions with department directors.

The next PDE course is being held Jan. 27 and 29 and Feb. 3 and 5 from 4 to 7 pm. This course will specialize in the area of English and Math. Please contact the Clark County School District PDE office at 799-1921 to register for the course.

Directions to class locations:

Jan. 27 and 29 and Feb. 3: Meet in the second-floor conference room at the Review-Journal's Henderson Distribution Center, located in the Pacific Business Center at 1110-B MaryCrest Ave. The closest major intersection is 215 and Gibson.

From the North: Take 95 south to 215 west, exit at Gibson, the first exit. Take a right (go north) until you see Mary Crest (just a short distance). Take a left onto Mary Crest, follow the street until it curves to the right. You will see the R-J office on the right -- the last building just before the road curves. Park anywhere near the entrance.

From the West: Take 215 east, exit at Gibson, the last exit (just before 95 intersection). Go left under the freeway (heading north), until you see Mary Crest (just a short distance).Take a left onto Mary Crest, follow the street until it curves to the right. You will see the R-J office on the right -- the last building just before the road curves. Park anywhere near the entrance.


Feb. 5: Meet at the Review-Journal's main building, 1111 W. Bonanza Rd, Room 106. The closest major intersection is Martin Luther King and Bonanza -- just off 95.

From the North on 95 (heading south): Exit at Rancho, go left under the freeway. Take an immediate right onto Bonanza Road. After crossing Martin Luther King, you will see the R-J building on your right. The guard on duty will direct you to the main building.

From the South on 95 (heading north): Exit at Martin Luther King, take a right onto MLK. At Bonanza, take a right. You will see the R-J building on your right. The guard on duty will direct you to the main building.
