2009 NIE Pet of the Year
Lance was selected as the NIE Pet of the Year from 173 entries received for the contest. He appears on the cover of the NIE Pet Calendar and more pictures of Lance are below.
Originally Lance was at the Lied Animal Shelter and was adopted by a local resident. However, Lance was more dog than the previous owner could handle and she placed an ad in the Review-Journal. Ms. Marie answered the ad and in 2003 Lance came home with Ms. Marie and has been a part of the family ever since. From the very beginning Lance has been a happy and content dog always smiling. Lance is a shepherd/chow mix breed.
Lance has been a protective dog and has saved Ms. Marie from at least one attempted home invasion over they years. He has a lot of energy and a powerful bark -- he lets you know when he is around.
Lance was excited to see the NIE staff the day the prizes and calendars were delivered. He had pictures taken with different scarves -- he has quite a collection and why not for a now-popular NIE dog?
