Las Vegas Newspapers in Education

Research has shown
that students who use newspapers as part of their curriculum score 10% higher on standardized tests than students who do not utilize the newspaper in their classroom. In addition, using the newspaper has been found to significantly enhance the student learning experience by providing real world examples and experiences to respond to the age-old question of “When am I ever going to use this in real life?”

THIS GEOGRAPHY PROGRAM IS FREE TO SUBSCRIBING SCHOOLS!

An EXCITING way to teach basic U.S. Geography using the Las Vegas Review-Journal Sports Section!

TEACHERS! Build this program into your social studies lesson plans! It is a great way to teach geography, while sharpening reading and math skills. Pigskin Geography is a complete program, ready-made for your classroom -- with reference information and activity lessons in a week-by-week format. Each week's student activities are designed for the week preceding the scheduled NFL games.

STUDENTS! There is no need to be a sports fan or geography buff to have fun with this! In fact, students are easity motivated to participate and will look forward to the weekly geography activities.
Students find it exciting to follow NFL teams around the country as they prepare for the upcoming football games -- all the while learning U.S. Geography!

MATERIALS FOR PARTICIPATING STUDENTS & TEACHERS:
• Student Reference Information Sheets -- Study Hint Sheet, State Abbreviations, Outline U.S. Map, Population Tables, Verbs and the Sports Page, Seating Capacity of Stadiums, Time Zone Map, etc.
• Supplements for Teachers -- Five Themes of Georgraphy, Math and Graphing Exercises, Latitude and Longitude Exercise, Team Cities and State Exercise, Georgraphy Enriichment Activities, and Answer Keys for Weekly Student Activity Sheets.

REGISTER! Teachers MUST register to participate in this program and order a Pigskin Georgraphy packet. Only teachers who register for the program will get the answer key files. Only one packet will be sent to a school for use by all teachers signed up.
